Nestled across from the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site, the historic home of America’s eighth President, the Martin Van Buren Nature Trails invite you to explore the same landscapes President Van Buren cherished during his retirement. Spanning 70 peaceful acres, these trails are owned and maintained by the Friends of Lindenwald, a dedicated nonprofit organization preserving this natural treasure for the community and future generations.
Our diverse trail system features four well-marked, all season paths totaling approximately 3.7 miles, including a 1.4 mile outer loop. As you walk, run, or hike these trails, you’ll journey through meadows, woodlands, and wetlands; passing stately maples, ash, and oak trees. Scenic views of rolling hills and farmland create an immersive natural environment. The trails are especially popular for birdwatching and wildlife enthusiasts, offering endless opportunities to connect with nature.
Open year-round from dawn to dusk, the trails welcome visitors in every season. Leashed dogs are welcome, making it an ideal destination for pet-friendly adventures. Amenities include a pavilion, fire pit, and benches for quiet reflection.
Whether you’re seeking a serene walk, an outing with family and friends, or a beautiful hike with your dog, the Martin Van Buren Nature Trails offer a unique combination of nature, history, and community connection.
